summary
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) is requesting funding for the implementation of Flock License Plate Reader (LPR) technology to enhance investigative capabilities within the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) and the Narcotics Division. This system will support efforts to combat stolen property, stolen vehicles, missing persons, and narcotics-related crimes.
Rutherford County Sheriff Aaron Ellenburg, Detective Sgt. Ryan Bailey of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and Taylor Ellison from Flock Safety will present this proposal to the Board of Commissioners. The requested funding will cover the purchase of eight LPR devices, including six stationary units and two movable units, enabling access to a nationwide database critical for efficient and effective investigations.
The presentation will detail how LPR technology improves real-time data collection, cross-agency collaboration, and investigative efficiency. It will also highlight examples of successful LPR utilization, such as resolving a 2024 missing persons case.
