Title

Juvenile Crime Prevention Council - Recommended Transfer of Equipment

body

Summary:

summary

Juvenile Crime Prevention Council recommends transfer of equipment previously utilized by Youth Empowerment to Project Challenge and Kids at Work.  A summary of equipment and the Juvenile Crime Protection Committee Policy are attached.  Two items that have not been requested will revert to the County.  The Finance Office and Public Works will coordinate with the regional JCPC programs manager to transition the equipment if approved.

Project Challenge requested the 2010 Chrysler Town & Country since the van that Project Challenge is using is a 2006 which was purchased by Polk County and has over 137,000 miles.  Although it has been a good van, it is starting to deteriorate, and the safety of the children being transported is always at the forefront when writing proposals.  Budgeting for a new van is not feasible.

Kids at Work has requested all the kitchen equipment, so they can set up their own kitchen when they find the space.  They will rent a storage unit to store equipment until they find a space if needed.  Kids at Work is also requesting the 15-passenger van to exclusively transport Rutherford youth and their families for services.

Finally, Kids at Work is requesting the laptops and mini-computers that would help greatly in curriculum delivery with students, especially as they implement ServSafe certification for students which utilizes online materials and testing.

Funding previously awarded to Youth Empowerment for FY 2018-2019 will be included in the County Commissioners’ December meeting agenda for reallocation.
